Organic farming

Vegetable Gardening

A major staple in our diet, but a majority of it comes to us covered in pesticides and sludge. Ew! Here is how to grow vegetables for yourself, and break free from dependance on grocery chains and 'conventional' farming.

Alicia Bayer Here's a bunch more, too.http://www.examiner.com/art... (fruits, veggies and herbs). My favorite edible for shade is chocolate mint. It makes the prettiest, most fragrant groundcover and it is low maintenance and easy to grow. When my kids run through the shade garden, the whole yard smells of chocolate mint. :)

Alicia Bayer I love the list but I wish the focus would have been on helping us grow them (and find sources for our gardens), rather than buying them for hefty prices at farmers' markets.

Cucumbers like it hot. Lettuce likes it cool and shady. But with a trellis, they’re perfect companions! Use a slanted trellis to grow your cucumbers and you’ll enjoy loads of straight, unblemished fruit. Plant lettuce, mesclun, or spinach in the shady area beneath to protect it from wilting or bolting. Great idea!
