synopsis on Bioenergy

he International Energy Agency predicts that the use of biomass, in the world energy supply mix, will increase from the current 10% to 30% by 2050.
At the same time, sustainable socio-economic development in Asia will increasingly depend upon a secure and stable supply of raw material inputs for agriculture, food, feed, industrial, energy, and other related sectors. Today, many economies are heavily reliant on non-renewable resources, especially fossil fuels. However, the reliance on these non-renewable resources are often accompanied by a heavy reliance on chemical processes which are at times, energy intensive and environmentally pollutive. Increasingly, there is a greater awareness and demand for the utilisation of renewables and renewable technologies including biomass and biological processes to support the supply of more of our industrial products and energy needs.
Speakers at the International Conference on "Next Generation Technologies for Bioenergy and Biomass Utilisation" will put the spotlight on some of these key technologies as well as policy issues related to the choice of feedstocks and technology conversion platforms for bioenergy generation and production of industrial chemicals/biochemicals, especially in Asia. The many examples and case studies which will be discussed at the conference are intended to illustrate the way in which these next generation technologies and strategies can help companies and economies derive greater value from a broad array of biomass resources, including various agricultural and industrial residues, forest plantations, non food crops and other agricultural by-products.
The wide range, availability and diversity of biomass, along with the many potential conversion paths and market applications have wide-ranging economic and environmental implications for researchers, policy makers, investors, environmentalists and regulators. The conference organisers hope that by bringing together professionals from a worldwide network to share the latest advances and ideas, they can help promote the development and adoption of clean and sustainable technologies for a better tomorrow.
This event is organised by Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory, in conjunction with its 10th anniversary to provide a venue for information exchange along with opportunities for productive interactions between researchers and industry professional
